Update on Citizen Commission formed to look at City Council Reform
Herb Beattie, spokesman for Tulsans Defending Democracy, sent the following update regarding the Citizens Commission formed by the Mayor to look into City Council Reform-
The mayor called this morning and asked how I would feel if he appointed Becky Darrow. I responded that that would be great and suggested that the commission certainly should have another AA member and suggested Jane Malone. The Urban Tulsa has an article by Michael Bates that will catch you up to speed. The article is titled Hizzoner’s Agenda and worth reading! He thought that Howard Barnett was the only TFBG member of the commission and that 1 of ours and two of theirs would not be fair. I informed him that Budge Lewis was definitely a TFBG leader and read him their whole list from their website, so he agreed to Jane.
He quickly called Becky, who will accept the invitation, and I confident that he has or will invite Jane. In addition to those ladies, Michael Covey and Reuben Gant will be strong opponents of any at-large proposals.
The mayor assured me that the group will review many aspects of city governance, including regional concepts.
Thanks for your interest and support.
Herb

Perhaps I'm a total doofus and AA means something here other than Alcoholics Anonymous, but if it DOES mean that, Mr. Beattie, et. al need to read the Anonymity Letter to Media.
