Results of the 3rd Penny Sales Tax Poll

A total of 87 votes were cast in the poll. Here's the break down:

  • 54 votes to extend the 3rd Penny for 18 months.
  • 8 votes to extend the 3rd Penny for 72 months.
  • 23 votes to kill the 3rd Penny.
  • 2 votes undecided.
  • 0 votes didn't have a clue.
I find it encouraging that no one voted that they didn't have a clue. Personally, I think the 3rd Penny should be extended for 18 months. This gives the new City Council and Mayor to sit back down at the drawing board and work together to bring a 3rd Penny Tax package that won't have to be "sold" by the Metro Chamber of Commerce.

I always find it ironic that so much time and money is spent PR'ing each election. Of course with 23 votes cast that plan on voting "NO" on any 3rd Penny extension, maybe the need is there. This is probably a mythical creature, but I'd like to see a package put together that passes easily without having to hype it. Put the money to better use like more police on the streets.
