Recent Reads and other "tweaks."

If you haven't noticed, I've made a few minor adjustments to Tulsa Topics. At the very top of the blog you'll notice the last 6 items that I've read and deemed interesting enough to tag. Yes I'll admit the idea isn't new and novel since Michael Bates integrated something similar at BatesLine.com, but I'm a firm believer in using good ideas when I steal see them.

I decided to go a different route in how I collect the links, choosing to use the del.icio.us's RSS feeds, which automagically injects the links into my main template via Feed2JS. I also use a FireFox extension for del.icio.us that allows me to tag whatever web page that I'm on to my "recent" group. Hopefully I'll turn up some links you'll find of interest.

Del.icio.us has some pretty powerful stuff on their website that is definitely worth checking out. Another bit of code that I use from their site is called Play Tagger which will play any MP3 file linked on a post. You can also add it to your browser and it will play any MP3 links you run across while you are surfing the net. Del.icio.us recently became part of the Yahoo family and their service keeps getting better, and you can't beat the price........free.

I also have a few other tweaks and projects in the bullpen that I'm experimenting on. Hopefully some of them will actually work and I'll incorporate them into the mix. Tulsa Topics is my "online lab experiment" and I've learned a lot of tips & tricks that I apply elsewhere. If you see Tulsa Topics mysteriously disappear for a day or two, it's probably because one of the "tweaks" deep sixed the website. Better here than on a paying client's website though.... right!

If you have any hot tips or tricks, and not just about programming websites, feel free to share them with me and the rest of the Tulsa Topics readers by commenting on this post, or you can always shoot me an email.

Stay tuned and check out my recent reads daily!
